Lobby Congress and Spread the Word about the reality of poverty in America

9/11 First Responders

400 more lives have been claimed by 9/11. First Responders have died due to post 9/11 illnesses and they have died without the honor and respect they deserve as heroes of our country. The Health Care and financial support they deserve have been cut by 77%. It is a disgrace and "We The People" should stand up for them!

Urge Congress to Support Legislation: Support the 9/11 rescue workers by asking your congressperson to support H.R.1638.

* "Who is my congressperson?"
* "Is my congressperson a cosponsor?"

If your congressperson is not a cosponsor of this comprehensive 9/11 health care legislation for the sick and injured, contact your congressperson and demand that he or she give our 9/11 heroes HONORABLE medical treatment equivalent to the prestige of the Medals of Honor they have received for their services unselfishly given.

The Bill:

Ensures that all exposed to the Ground Zero toxins have a right to be medically monitored and that all who are sick as a result have a right to treatment;

Builds on the expertise of the various health centers currently providing high-quality care to thousands of responders while ensuring on-going data collection and analysis;

Expands care to the entire exposed community, which includes residents, area workers and school children as well as the thousands of people from across the country who assisted with the recovery and clean-up effort; and

Provides compensation for loss by reopening the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund

Rebuild New Orleans:

The displacement of tens of thousands of people in New Orleans is at risk of permanency because of the current shortage of affordable housing and lack of plan to create affordable rental housing for those displaced.

The City of New Orleans, working hard to criminalize homelessness, expects to pass a new ordinance in April 2008 allowing for the arrest of homeless people sleeping on the street. Its homeless population has doubled since Katrina. Experts now estimate that 1 in 25 people in New Orleans are homeless, the highest rate in the nation.

Public Housing:

Demolition has begun at C.J. Peete, B.W. Cooper and St. Bernard. New Orleans Mayor Nagin has given the green light for demolition to proceed at the Lafitte Housing Projects.
